Silk Road

Went back to Silk Road for dim sum.
They got the fancy napkins now.

Came back for the crispy shrimp Cheung fun, still one of my favs here.

Chicken Curry Puff - it's was only ok.

Baked BBQ Pork bun - It's nice and flakey.  Sugar dough topped to give that flakey texture.

Of course, there's a steamed version of the BBQ buns.  And of course since it's not Canton style, the BBQ inside is brown with brown sugar instead of red ones.

This is the Mushroom Bao - I just love how cute it is.  Just like a real mushroom.  It's a steamed bun where the filling is mushroom.  Definitely cute.

Not pictured: Xiao Long Bao, Turnip Cake, Har Gow, Siu Mai - the usual dim sum faire.

I think the place has gotten its rhythm, and everyone is operating more syncopated than before.  Staffing seems to be managed properly, and the staff also have gotten to know the menu better.  The experience is still quite enjoyable.  Doesn't look like you need a reservation as much as you needed it before.  But couldn't hurt to have one.

The Honey Hole

Trying a new brunch place.
Turns out it's a very popular brunch place.  If you don't have a reservation, I wouldn't even bother.  The wait is long for walk-up.

Had the My Pear Lady mocktail - which has pear, lychee and non-alcoholic vodka.  It's decent, but one was enough for me.  I think I would've liked the Cucumber Refresher which seems to be pretty popular.

And here we are all sharing our food... lots of it.

First, is the Acai Ice Cream bowl.  It has strawberries, banana, blue berries, granola and honey.  It's really a very fancy açai bowl.  Worth trying though.

Smoked Salmon on Toast, and the bread is challah.  It has cream cheese, smoked salmon, white truffle onion.  It's so good that I instead to take the left over home.

We had contemplated the Lobster & Grits or the Etuoufee, but that seems to be alot.  So we went with Stuffed French Toast.  Very light whipped cream, fruits, puree, and honey on top.  The bread here is a croissant, not challah.  It gives it super flakey goodness.  Definitely different take on an old classic.

Original Chicken and Funnel Cakes, it's their take on Chicken & Waffles.  Honestly, I enjoyed the funnel cake alot, the chicken was only ok for me.  Can I just get the funnel cake on the side please?!  (Actually you can, it's their Funnel Cake Fries - not the full cake, but same idea).

I will say, brunch can be intense here, the place gets packed easily. So having a reso is definitely, highly recommended.  Food is not bad, some misses, but overall decent.  Service is where it's a hit or miss for me.  As the dining room fills up, we see less and less of our server.  Oddly enough, I did see a photographer making us pose in all sorts of ways, then her cohort comes by with framed photo and for $25 a pop.  While that's clever, it's also cheesy.  While I do believe people do want to memorialize their outings, having multiple people in the group, it's less likely we'd buy multiple photos.  That venture is kinda weird in this day and age.

Parking is no issue here, the parking lot is free and have ample parking.

Snooze AM

Went back to Snooze for breakfast.
Not gonna lie, I always stay hydrate the first thing in the morning... of course, those 2 things counteracts each other, but liquids nonetheless..

I got the Denver Omelet, which has 3 eggs, ham, bell pepper, and cheddar inside.  It came with a round of hash brown.  I skipped the toast because this is already a lot of food.

So coming to Snooze on a Sunday, a little timing strategy is needed.  If the weather is good, you can be sure people will come out.  If you do come, try to get around 9-ish because church across the street lets out at 10a.  If you do want to come after service, come immediately, don't dilly dolly around, because once folks walk across, it gets filled up fast.  Not to mention folks from Medical Center gets off their shifts, and can impact that too.  Basically, as usual, the early bird gets the worm.

Willie G's Galveston

We had to go to Galveston for a homework assignment.
Luckily, right next door is a good lunch spot.

Since my kid won't do the fish restaurant, we went to Willlie G's.

I got a mocktail version of whiskey sour.  Let me tell you, whatever brand that is of the zero proof whiskey was not tasty.  So maybe try something else.

The salad, however was spot on.  I got the steak salad, the steak is good. Besides base lettuce, it has eggs, avocado, red onion, radish, tomato.  I asked for the vinaigrette on the side, but it worked out nicely.  There's a lot of protein here, so it was super filling.  But no complaints from me because we got the view of the harbor.

The mood is definitely nothing like its Uptown counter-part.  No extra eyelashes needed to come here.  The mood at this place is spiffy island living. Nice, casual and decent food and service.  This is located at Pier 21, past the cruise ship terminal.  You can get free parking there for 3 hours, just let your server know but be sure to know your license plate.  The Tall Ship Elissa is between the 2 restaurants here.  So you might as well park there and then walk around.  The Tall Ship has alot of history and their museum also give you a glimpse of early immigrants and how they land and survive once they arrived at Galveston.

Cafe Rabelais

Stopped back by Cafe Rabelais for lunch.
It's been a while since I've been back.  p.s. do not try to practice your French here, unless you're native French speaker.... unless you want to embarrass yourself, like I did.  Just sayin'.

Anyway, felt like an onion soup is appropriate.  I just love the cheese and the croton.  Soup was nice and hot, but love love love the cheese and crouton so much.

For entree, we got Quiche Lorraine, which comes with a side of arugula salad.  The whole dish is very very filling.  So don't underestimate the amount.   The quiche is actually quite hardy, very filling for sure.  But more importantly, lots of nutrients in a brunch dish.

You can come here and pretend to be a Parisian and sit outside when the weather is nice and enjoy the day and have a meal.  For lunch and brunch, you can feel free to walk up.  But for dinner, a reservation is highly recommended.

You can park out front and pay for parking or park on the street.  Just pay attention to the signs and respects the neighbors.

J. Alexander

Venture out to lunch with some coworkers.
Let's start with an Arnold Palmer.

I forgot what yummy cheesey goodness is, but if I see it again, I'll definitely get it again.

Then we have the Hong Kong Shrimp.  Though, I can promise there's no such dish in Hong Kong.  The shrimp dish was good. The shrimp is crispy, the sauce is creamy and spicy, which is totally not what you think it'd tasted like.  At first glance, I thought it's a sweet and sour flavor, but it's creamier than I thought.  I would get this again.

I got the Ahi Tuna Salad.  The tuna was good, the mix greens was good, but I like their cilantro vinaigrette.  Now, I know that's controversial, but seriously it was well-balanced dressing to go with the tuna and the veggies.

I think next time when I come back here, I'd get their fish dishes.  They all looked very good.  Or their steaks, the entrees all looked very good.  The service is great.  Plenty parking.  But highly recommend making a reservation even if it's for lunch.  This is a good spot and can understand why people come out here for it.  The chef is super friendly, stopped by and introduce himself to our table and strikes up super friendly conversation, which does make everyone feels special.  That and good food, I'm sold!

Fieldings

Came to Fielding's for a work dinner.
It is in apartment complex. But they do have valet and self parking options.  The guard at the other entrance was very kind to provide the directions for self-park.

Since it was Halloween, they ran a Halloween drinks and food special.

I got the Poison Apple.  Yep those are eyes, it has non-alcoholic gin, apple puree, pineapple juice, honey, and lemon juice.  In other words, it's a little bit of gin, but lots of sugar.

First off, heard about the Crisp Okra.  It's fried, and has Old Bay on it. But what I think that does it was the Tobasco Aioli.

I'm not usually an okra fan, but these I did not hate.

Then they brought out some Skillet Bread.  First off, it's really better with the shredded cheese on top.  But the chimichurri sauce was really really good.

That sauce is really good, so much so that we pulled the sauce aside to save it for other dishes.
I got the Veal Piccata, haven't had one in a long time.  It has a mushroom cream sauce, creamed spinach, little trumpet mushrooms, and caramelized apple.  Honestly, I thought the apples were potato and kept wondering why the favors were so tamed. The mushroom sauce was fine, but with the meat it was not anything so special that I want to come back for.

I can most certainly say that, I don't need to come back anytime soon.  The service was so-so, drinks took a long time, but food came in decent time.  They have a one-man band, but the music was good.  Food some hit and some misses.... but nothing compelling enough for me to make it back here.
