Hong Kong's Cafe

I know I go to Hong Kong's Cafe way too much, but it felt like such a great deal that I think people should all go and eat there for breakfast.

Breakfast: eggs any style, with either lunch meat, sausage, or ham and buttered toast.

Comes with a drink, hot or cold, coffee or something exotic, like iced almond milk.

You can have ramen, vermicelli, thick egg noodle, or macaroni with various toppings.  For the low, low price of $5.60.  Of course, you need to factor in the tax and tip, but that's still less than $8.  Where can you go for breakfast that has 2 courses and a drink for less than $10?  Even McDonald's prices are going up, plus it's not as healthy.  Can't beat that with a stick!  Don't forget, they only take cash.

Smashburger

It's not often we get a chance to go to Smashburger, but I'm so thrilled we did!  Been dreaming of their fries!!!

We got a Strawberry Milkshake to start.  There are practically two serving of shake, so best share it with someone because you each practically get your own.

I got the Truffle Mushroom Swiss burger on a gluten free bun.  Sadly, the bun fell apart easily, so I might as well just eat it with fork and knife.  You can taste the freshness of the beef and the mushroom, of course the cheese, but sadly not much of truffle to speak of.  For the side, I got sweet potato smash fries, which is cooked with rosemary.  It was good warm, but like all fries, after it gets cold, it's only so-so.  So do not wait!

Miss Dessert

Being a sweet tooth, I was very much looking forward to the newest Chinese dessert place in Houston.

Miss Dessert is a tiny spot next to Fu Fu facing Bellaire Blvd.  Plus, now that the street is fixed, it's much easier to see the sign and get in.

Not too much on the menu.  They have Vanilla based, Sago based, Glutinous Rice Balls with soup based and fillings, Mango based, Grass Jelly based, Homemade sweets based, snacks, and Milkshake blends.

I got the coconut milk sago.  It turned out to be cold, there is a warmer version, but I should've guessed it.  They are generous with the sago, but not with the portion.  That tiny dish is not very deep in case you're wondering.  And while the taste is spot on, for $4.60 for a small dish is not very price worthy.  Because comparatively, when you turn the corner (within the same shopping center) at the Gelato Cup, you can get a big cup of sago with fruit for the same price.  They will do it either warm or cold, and again the size is larger, and makes a difference.

This is a hole in the wall, and they do serve some desserts that no one in Chinatown is serving.  Some of them, you'll have to go to someone's home in order to taste them.  That said, for the price, the taste is not outstanding, now that I've tried it, I don't have to wonder anymore.  By the way, they only accepts cash and the place is small if you do end up going there with a group, keep that in mind.

Cafe Kubo's

Cold days makes me crave for soup and ramen... since there were a long line down at Tiger Den, we went to Kubo's Cafe.  Not that they're the second fiddle, just that I know that I'll get decent soups there too.

Tonkotsu~ oishii!!!!  The soup was nice and thick, and when it hits your tummy, it delivers warmth.  Talk about hitting the spot!  The egg is the perfect 60 degrees - soft boiled egg.  The pork is nice and fatty.  I wouldn't have minded if there's more fat.  The soup is nice and thick, the noodles are Sun Noodle, but nice and complimentary.  All I have to say is delish!  

Ended up splitting this roll with my mom.  It's the scallop tuna roll.  The scallop is chopped inside and tuna on top.  They drizzled the eel sauce on the outside.  It was nice without a lot of sauce.  I know it's a bit expensive, but it's worth the try.

Reminder, Ramen is only served in the evening and weekends.  So, make sure you go when they serve.  Roll they have all day long.  Should you miss their ramen, their bento is good and generous too.

BiBiJo Express - Korean Cuisine

T'was cold and rainy in a December day, the best thing to do is to get something that warms my belly.

 Inside H-Mart, there are several places that serves noodles, stone noodles, rock bowl, bowl rice...etc.  I wanted to get something warm to my belly, so decided to give them a try.

It was a special they were promoting, which is spicy pork rock noodles.  They are not as spicy as I'd thought it'd be.  I would say the heat came from the rock bowl, which is pretty sizzling hot.  The temps were for sure there.  The spice is there, it's not hot enough that a wimp like me can't take.  It is for sure flavorful.  The pork is definitely generous portion, the flavor got soaked into the soup.  And you get some kimchi in there, which makes the whole thing yummy.  They serve the bowl with rice, and apparently, they have little side dishes behind the sign that you are free to have along with your dish and rice.  For $8.99 you can't ask for more... as a matter of fact, my tummy was warmer for it.
