Went to the new Sambal Chef location in Chinatown.
This location is facing Beltway 8 at Bellaire, don't blink, you might miss it.
To start, I got a Thai Iced Tea, and they gave us a wonton soup.
We ordered the Roti to start. The Curry sauce is lovely for a cold day, so that was a nice add.
We got a lot of dishes for lunch, and if you pay cash, they will give you a discount.
We got Char Koay Teow - which is a flat noodle with light and dark soy sauce, plus sambal paste, and veggies.
This is bean sprout, eggplant, and bits of dried fish. I could use a little more fish on this dish. I always like dishes with dried fish. It has protein and salty enough to carry the entire dish.
The Mango Shrimp was pretty good. You get real mini slices of mango in there, which totally enhanced the flavors of the shrimp if the sauce didn't do a good enough job. My only complaint was that the dish was too tiny, could've used a bigger plate of this.
We went to lunch there during the week, so it was easy to get in and out. And while they do accept credit cards, if you use cash, they will give you a discount on your bill.
