Coco Crepes

Went back to Coco for a quick breakfast.
It was busier than I had expected.  Should've known by the look at the parking lot, barely got a spot.

That also led to longer wait time for the food.

I got the Ham & Mozzarella, which is a fancy way of doing Ham & Cheese.  To be honest though, I think I'd prefer gruyere or some stronger hard cheese than mozzarella.  The flavor didn't come thru, the sauce however that was drizzled on top did though.  It is aioli sauce, drizzled, so it's best to cut a piece, wipe some sauce on it, and then consume, it's better that way.

You do get your money's worth, and the filling in the middle is hearty and fill you up.

I got a latte while I'm there.  I applaud their effort of making a heart, the flavor still taste good.

Peach Galette

Another peachy delectable, going back to the Peach Galette.
I think out of all the recipes out there, this one is the easiest to do.  You mix cinnamon, vanilla, lemon juice and sugar.

Mix it all up I was using spatula but it's actually easier to mix by hand.

Of course, the pie crust is store bought, I would not do a good job making my own anyhow.  Plus, if you do it this style, you can make 2 with 1 box.

Got it all ready to go and in the oven to bake.

It came out nice...  I brush some heavy cream on the side and added Sugar in the Raw on top.  Not going to lie, grabbed extra packs when I was at the coffee shop so I have then for the sides.

Here's a close up.

Now that I've made this 2nd or 3rd year.  I always forget that the 2lb of peaches the recipe called for is too much.  That yield about 6-7 medium size peaches.  In reality, there's actually a lot, especially you cut them up and spread.

Another thing I learned too is that the recipe has a lot more 'sides' to their pie, than I do.  And it is possible because they have smaller or less peach.  So, next time, I think 4-5 is enough.  In actuality, I had a lot of left over, and was busy sholving them on the sides.  It's hard to make it look pretty and even.  Right now, it looks like a little mountain, which is hard to cut into and serve.

Ice Ice Boba

Also at Post HTX, in the middle of the kiosks, is the only boba tea place.

Don't underestimate them, their line is long, comparable to any of the eateries here.

I got the grapefruit tea.  Been doing a lot of fruit tea lately.  The only trouble is that it is sweeter but the boba is fresh and you can tell because it's nice and warm.  Not cold and chompy.  You can tell if it's fresh if it's chewy-er than regular jelly.

The place is good, that said, we waited near 20 mins for our drinks.  It's good to have a place like this in the mis, but 20 minutes for a drink is a bit much.  As said before, go early and beat the line.

Raman Moto

Went to Post for dinner with some friends.  There are so many choices in there.
When you go, pick on the earlier side.  Not only that, you can beat any show-goers or ballgame attendees. The place gets busy when all the events in the area come out at once.

This time I picked Ramen, I don't recall seeing them there last time.

Done by the same folks that brings you Tiger Den, Aka Sushi, Mein, Ishin Udon.  So they know a thing or two about noodles.

I got the Garlic Tonkotsu, which is kinda funny because they just give you a heaping spoon of garlic on top.  The noodle is good, the cha siu (pork) is good, a tad too much on the bamboo & scallion, and the egg wasn't a warm 60 degree egg. The broth is good and has nice texture.  For $16.50, it's not the best ramen in town, but if the mood strike, that'll work.

Peach Hand Pies

This week seems to be a week of sweets.

Since I got so many peaches, had to find another way to use them up.  This time, I followed this recipe for Hand Pies.

In theory, and in other people's photos, it looks more like a pop tart.

But I didn't do a good job rolling it all the way out and stretch it well, so it fell short on some.

Baked fine, didn't ooze out too much peaches.

See!  Still came out nice and golden brown.

In case you're wondering, the dough is the Cresent Dinner roll dough, you roll it out to stretch then cut to 'hand pie' sizes.  The filling is cream cheese with egg yolk and peaches to cook.  It came out with a nice balance with the fruit.  It's very nice together.  Great for breakfast on the go.

Southern Sweets

New Coffee Place Alert!
I've been seeing this shop on my IG feed for a while.  Turns out, it's on my way to Meyerland.

Super cute interior.

Goodies filled the pastry case, I came in the afternoon, so that's what we have there.  They also have ice cream, and cakes too.

Even the packaging is cute.

Nice touch in the little nook.

I got a Matcha Latte.  It is cold, but the taste is bitter than most other places that does it.  I know it came from a pre-made batch, so maybe next time will have a different taste?  Consistency is fine.

I do have to brag about a Margarita Cookie.  I got it on a whim.  But it is a little like tea cake cookie, but the flavor does taste like a mini margarita (sans alcohol).  But you get a bit of salty from the rim, a bit of sour from the lime, and altogether gives a very nice effect.  Like I took a mini vacation.  Definitely worth getting again!

House of Pies

Another Houston favorite: House of Pies.
The place is as much as a diner vibe as a fun coffee vibe.  Even they updated the space it's still the same in many ways.

We got some coffee and pies and chatted.  I got the Chocolate Bavarian Banana.  As usual, way too much whipped cream on top.  I do the love the chocolate cream and the banana mix.  As usual, I get my decaf there.  I swear the coffee is fresh because no one else orders it.  But it just good all around.   Of course, the company always makes it fun too.

Beck's Prime

Haven't been back to Beck's for a long time.
I definitely don't dine-in, haven't before the pandemic, definitely haven't during.  So this is a first time for me sitting down at this location.

I got the Ahi Tuna Sandwich, it came with feta, cucumber, red onion, and tomato.  I love their ahi tuna is great as usual.  I just like their texture and mixed with feta is a great combo.  The bun is puffy as always, it's a good meal for me.

Of course, my favorite to get here is the cream soda, not that you can't buy it at the store but a lot of burger places don't have that.  So, I grab that any chance I get.

We also shared some truffle fries (not pictured) but it was fun to just sit and chat with friends.  As usual, drive thru is available, the staff are nice and fast, so no complaint here.  Though their website the location was closed, it was opened when we got there, so please check.

Samanco Ice Cream

So my friends were telling me to try this Samanco Ice Cream.
Sure, I was going to the Asian Grocery store to stock up anyways, why not?!

They come in different flavors, this is Green Tea with Red Bean which is very popular combo for Asian desserts.

Each pack has 4 individually wrapped ice cream.

I kinda felt deceived, because the package showed a lot of red bean, but ....

Took 3 more bites to see 'some' red beans.  I was under the impression that there'll be more.  But it's still good little snack.  They also sell Chocolate, Strawberry or Red Bean with Vanilla.  I'll stick with this for now.

The Loop

Of course, one must get a dessert while in the area.

Ended up at The Loop for a quick churro.

And when I said quick, I really meant it.  I got the plain one, and for 50cents more, you get a small dip.  I got the Nutella dip.  I can honestly go home and get that but I'm already here...

To quench my thirst, I got the Mango Lemonade with no add ons.  It's not too sweet, but just sweet enough for this 100+ degree heat.  I'm doing a tad sweet but not too just for taste.

Please go and support this small chain, they are a small little family that got the license to open here.  And they have couple very 'grammable' background.  Please support when you can.

Coppa Osteria

Went back to Coppa for dinner.
This time got put in the corner (insert: Nobody Puts Baby In the Corner here).

We shared the Octopus Carpaccio.  I like the flavor but the octopus was cut too thin.  Thinner than sashimi, so then you can't even capture the flavors as a whole in every bite like they're supposed to.

Order the Ceasar, just for some veggies.  I'm not going to lie, I just really wanted the anchovy.  Never thought I'd say that, but I really like theirs.

I stepped away from my 'usual' and got the Hanger Steak, just because I was in the mood for chimichurri sauce.  The sauce wasn't heavy like how I like it.  I usually like to soak my meat in there.  But my steak was good, so no complaint there.  The potato is nice and crispy with a bit garlic aioli at the bottom.  No complaint there, I ate all my potato.

Overall it's a decent meal, not one of the best I've had there.  The servers were great and attentive.  I'm still bitter that I got put in the corner.  But it was fine, in a very mafia way.

Butter Baby Bakery

Went back to Butter Baby for some goodies

This ginormous cake is....

Coffee cake with cream cheese and strawberry crumble on top.  Now, I'm not going to lie, I did put it in the freezer and froze it for a bit before taking it out.  But after thawed and in room temperature, it was still pretty good, especially the cream with strawberry, super delicious, would love to bottle that up and eat it all day long.

And another treat I got was the Peach cake.  I love these jars, it makes me feel less like a pig when I come back for a couple bites at a time.

Super fresh ingredients, nicely layered, refined me of parfaits.  But with more oomph because of the cake in each bite.  Definitely my favorite.  Check out their Instagram to see what new product or pop up they'll be at.

Peach Pastry Puff Bites

It's that time of year again.
Peach truck is back in town!

Let's get these peaches a look see...

I actually picked up the wrong thing, I was going to get puff pastry sheet instead I got puff pastry shells.
Since it's shells, I went ahead and pick another recipe

So the diced peaches topped on top of the puff pastry shells.

Here's the finish product.

Couple things to note: this is an easy recipe, no biggie there.   But basically you bake the shells, than make the filling.   This recipe calls for cream cheese and sugar mix, you can put pudding, that's probably a good combo.  Now, the diced peach has sugar mixed in, so it's sweet on its own too.  The fruit on top is not baked in, it's topped - so handle with care.  Last tip: when you bake the shells, the middle is baked in too, but after it cools, you can cut it out.  I purposely not cut it all the way thru, so it has a little base for the cream cheese mix and the fruit.  I imagine if you cut it all the way thru, you can hold the fruit more tidy but maybe less.  Overall, not hard to make.
