Dakar street Food

Saw this place was featured at someone's IG, thought it'd be interesting to try.
They specialized in Senegalese food, which I've never had before.

We were curious what Juice Bouye is, and the guy as kind enough to let us try it.  It is very thick in texture, almost shake-like; sweet, but not too sweet.   Also filling.

As it turns out this is juice from a Baobab fruit, which is the most recognizable in Africa Savannah region, which is essential to the Senegal area.

Next is the Ginger Juice.  You can see the pulp floating too.  It does have a kick to it, just like ginger would.  We'd figured that this is great if you mix it with lemonade.

I got the Poisson Braised - if you've paid attention in your high school French class, you'd know that that is fish.  This is tilapia grilled Senegalese style with lemon pepper sauce, onion, and it really is a whole fish.  This is actually big enough to share since there's plenty of meat on both sides of the fish.  Flavor is nice and have a bit of lemony goodness.  You can also dip the sauce they provided, it's a lighter version of the tzatziki sauce.  For sides, I got plantain, and it's one of the better versions I've had out there.

My friend ordered the Oxtail and also a very worthy dish.  Again, this dish is big enough to share.  You get 2 serving of rice, slow braised oxtail with carrots and potato accompanied by the little bowl of meat sauce.  Truly, if you sat me down with the sauce and rice and sell that to me, I'd be happy to lap it all up.  But the oxtail is legit good.  The combo is delicious and since the portion is huge, it's good for couple meals.

This is definitely a tucked in hole in the wall.  I feel like this is a Westernized version of what they truly have in Senegal.  Can't wait to go back and try other dishes of theirs.
