Went to dinner with a friend at Sushi by the Heights.
At first, I thought she casually mentioning that we should do sushi by the Heights, meaning the cuisine in the area. Not realizing, she meant the restaurant's name is Sushi by the Heights. Duh on me.
We have here, pork belly pieces and shishito pepper from the robata. I will say, most shishito peppers are smaller, these are medium by size. I like them, but I like them dainty.
The pork belly was pretty dang good, wouldn't mind ordering more.
Uni Shiso - has a bit of uni, Shiso which is perilla leave, truffle tofu, fried and. add caviar on top. Pretty easy to pop in, not too bad.
Got a special handrail that is Toro, Uni, and salmon roe. It's pretty good, definitely messy, it is a 2 bite thing, so don't underestimate how messy it can get. The key is to do it quick!
Went ahead and tried the Uni Shooter, it has obviously uni, a bit of sake, ponzu sauce which makes it very salty, some scallion, sesame and seasoning plus a quail egg. The shooter can do without the quail egg to be honest, I just really wanted the uni.
Got couple pieces of sushi - I will say, that it's not too frozen you can taste that it's fresh, which is good given the price.
We went for the scallop risotto. It looked good, the risotto was cooked nicely. Not quite sure why the mushrooms weren't cooked. The scallop was fine, nothing special to note, and they just dumped a clob of tobiko on one side, it was quite strange. The combo is not bad, but you can tell it can be better.
Lastly is our assorted tempura. I say lastly because we placed the order when we sat down. First I think someone gave away our order, and subsequently forgotten about it. We had to follow up with our server at least 3 times to see what happened. A, to fried something is not difficult. B, given all the food we've ordered above, there were ample time for them to do a replacement order. C, though the server did apologize, it's also not cool that they didn't go back to check. The problem only made worse as the night progress with more customers and get busier. So when the food is fine some good quality but not all knock it out of the park for me, and the service is like that: for me, the jury is out on this one.
Also, we have a reservation, and upon arrival, the hostess was going to seat us by the barstools. Erm, traditionally, those are for walk-ins. Do we not deserve a table? It's only we requested a table that we got seated by the back. I think that's a bit uncouth on the hostess part.
Parking: there are a few spots next to the building on 11 1/2th Street and there is also a lot next to the building, but if you go during a game night - they have a sports bar next door and parking will be taken up quickly. You can park down the street, but please be respectful to the neighbors and read any of the signs posted.
