Torchy's

Sometimes you just want junk food.
Here's some junk food.  I got the Burrito Bowl, it has rice, beans, cheese, guac, pico, babacoa pork and sour cream.  They also has salsa on the side for you to spice it up.

Listen, it's junk food to the max, I was really there for the queso.  I got the HillBilly Queso, which has green chili, chorizo, and the HillBilly comes with chips.  That sounds weird? Yes, because plain queso does not come with chips, you have to add that.  So choose wisely.

KP's kitchen

Went to KP's Kitchen for a meetup.
The place is decent size, but they did court off a bit of space for our large party.

I got a zero proof mocktail, not too sweet, and not too sugary.  That's perfect for me, not exactly a plain drink, but not a mixed drink either.

I ordered the Strawberry Not So Short Cake, kinda felt like a strawberry muffin topped with cream and berries.  It was supposed to be Ooey butter cake, but it felt more like a muffin with strawberry bites.  Don't  get me wrong, the whipped cream and berries does add to it, but it's not as special as it was made to sound.

Service was great, staff were friendly and organized.  For our large party, no one got their order wrong.  It is pricy for a short visit.  If you're looking for a night out and something medium to above par, give them a try.  For the pricing, it is a tad high but I'm also for supporting local shops too.

Chuy's

Ended up at Chuy's
Can't even tell you when was the last time I ate there....

I got a FauxLoma - which is a zero proof Paloma with grapefruit, lime juice, and agave nectar. Not too sugary like a faux mojito.

I usually get enchiladas from here.  I like the Tex Mex sauce and use the sauce mix it with rice.  I can never finish the enchiladas, and usually open it all up and mix it altogether.  Super messy but fun to eat.

I will say, throughout the years, I feel like their food and service is at a decline.  The only thing I'd come back for is queso and creamy jalapeƱo.

Mercato and company

Checking out a new coffee place.
It's called Mercato & Company.

They are indeed a mercato.... have juices, yogurt...

Fancy ice cream that cost $9 per cup.

They have a coffee bar as well as a panini bar too.

I got something unique, it's Tiramisu latte.  So they do have mascarpone as part of the cream on top, and you get a lady finger to go along with it.  Presumably for you to dip into your coffee.  They do sprinkle in cocoa powder and espresso powder to create that experience.  It is definitely richer than the regular latte you get, but they do sell out occasionally.

They also have a few seasonal drinks on rotation.  And fully expects you to buy the panini and enjoy lunch there.  There are seating inside and in their back porch area.  Which you can reasonably enjoy when the weather is nice.  If you come during busy time, i.e. there's a bunch of kids in the baseball fields nearby, fully expect this place is busy.

La Sicilia

Back in Houston, must get my cookies fix.

Good thing they have parking reserved for patrons, so getting in and out was easy given how busy that shopping center can be.

But let's talk goodies... lots of yummy baked goodness.

Danish, pie, cookies, croissants... oh my!

And yes, bear claw too.

I was getting stuff for a gathering, only indulged and split this.  It is made with almond flour as crust and while there's ricotta filling, the almond everywhere made up with the flavor of the dessert.

Ocean Prime

Up for a business lunch in Dallas.
For a shi-shi place like this, Houston can definitely support, I'm surprised they did not have a branch here.

Since it's a business lunch, nothing fancy.  Started with an Arnold Palmer with some bread, nice and warm bread.

I went with the Poke Bowl, some chopped Ahi Tuna, some salmon, wasabi tobiko, Sriracha Vinaigrette.  The vinaigrette was a surprise.  I was curious if it would be spicy, but turns out it was ok.  The flavors mixed well, not too spicy over all.  The fishes were sashimi grade and mixed it all up, it's super flavorful.

For lunch it's easy to get in here, but for dinner, a reservation is highly recommended.  Of course they have their own valet.  If a little chill is what you're after, they do have giant heat lamps for the tables outside and a chic fire place if you want to sit by and have drinks there.

Jeng Chi

Went to dinner in Dallas, and friends wanted to go to Jeng Chi
I will say, the population of patronage has definitely changed since my last visit.  But also made me wonder where is everyone else is eating.
Anyway, we still had a very full dinner.

Got the Crab and Pork XLB, not as flavorful as DTF, but the skin texture is better.

Got the Snow Pea leaves, it's stir fried with garlic, one of my favorite way to eat.

Then got some Mapo Tofu, and my fav is when they incorporate chopped up pork with the sauce.  It really makes it filling.  For a cold night, have some meat, some tofu, and some sauce over rice, it's the ultimate comfy food.

Tenfold Coffee

I can never get to Tenfold's Heights location...
... so it was nice to be able to park and walk up to their downtown location.

The place is spacious, have big tables, and half booths, as well as bar seatings.

The beauty of it: you can see the park and people watch.

Had a latte and enjoying the day.

If you have errands to run downtown, come by and check it out.  Street parking is good and easy.  They sometimes offer classes from latte art to specialty coffee education.   They also have a roastery too.

Snooze

Back in Houston, let's get some good o' fashion breakfast!
Stopped by Snooze, we tend to go early, so no issue grabbing a table.

Yes, I like to stay hydrated.

Got my Corn Beef Hash breakfast with 2 eggs, sunny side up.  I like their corn beef hash has decent chunks of meat.  Some places diced them as small as possible like it's art.  I just want some protein in the morning.  That said, I also had to skip lunch because how much food that is.  So, it turns out to really be two meals for me.

As suggested, go early, I feel like we have better service and get our food faster just because we're earlier.  We're the respectable early crowd, not the super crazy early crowd.  Definitely worth getting up for.

Sushi Roku

We were busy shopping and went for sushi inside Ceasar's Forum shops.
We went ahead and made a reservation because it's Vegas, and you never know.

For dinner, we ordered some edamame and this is the seaweed salad, but their ginger sauce is red and I keep thinking it resembles ketchup, so I wiped it off.

I decided to do a 7 piece nigiri omakase.  Well....

I had: Tuna Belly, Grouper, Tuna, Amberjack, Gold Ice Snapper, Mackerel, and Sea Eel, with a spicy tuna roll.

The Tuna Belly, Amberjack and Snapper was good.  The rest of the quality was not bad, but not so good that I have to come back.

This is located on 3rd floor of the Forum Shops facing Las Vegas Blvd. If you get there early enough, feel free to ask to sit where the view is, it's great people watching and lights comes up very cool after sunset.

Sardelle's

When brunching in Vegas, yes, a reservation is a must.
Even if the (sit-down) restaurant takes walk-in, having a reservation shortens your wait and they go out of their way to accommodate.

Case in point, there was a family that was standing there waiting.  Upon our arrival, the host thought we were part of the standing family.  When I walked up and mentioned our reservation, we skipped the line and got seated right away.   So, it pays to make one ahead of time.

Since Sardelle's is originally from New York, bagel is a thing and I felt obligated to get a bagel.  In case you're wondering it's a cinnamon raisin one, and no lox in sight.  Not that they don't have any, I just didn't order any.

Because.... I saw the omelet and it was calling my name.  It's a Western Omelet, pepper, onion, and ham, there's cheese in there too because when you cut it, it's ooey and gooey.  The bagel was my side for the entree.

Just for kicks, we ordered fries just to share because why not?!

Sardelle's is located inside Bellagio, right at the corner of the Bellagio Flower Garden.  The Flower Garden is a sight to see.  They are always changing the theme to match the upcoming season.  For example, after Christmas/New Year, they go into Chinese New Year mode, and then they go into Valentine's Day mode.  I've seen them work over night, and they do bring in cranes and lifts to put those designs together.  Definitely very creative.  If you're sitting by the garden, it's not too loud, the flowers does it job to shield you and give you some privacy.

They also have a to-go cart too.  So if you want a grab and go, they have coffee and bagels on the ready.

Cafe Gelato

When you've been eating a lot of junk food, inevitably, your body is craving something healthy.
Luckily, there are several cafes inside the hotel, and it's easy to get something yummy and healthy.

Got a Chia Bowl (que the Ch-Ch-Cha-Chia song)

It has kiwi, mango, flaxseed, shredded coconut, blueberries, over a bed of chia pudding and cocoa nib.  It all mixed together is pretty good.  Not to mention filling.  It is actually a lot for breakfast and to be honest, I wasn't hungry for a good long while.  Then again, we're in Vegas, lots of walking to walk it all off.

The Lock - Speakeasy

We heard alot about speakeasies in Vegas....
... and thank you Instagram listening, they recommended The Lock.  It seems to be one of the more 'true' speakeasy.

Well, I don't know about you, but when you see a giant door with a key on it, it's pretty big clue, right?!

Don't know if you can see it, but on the side, there's a phone.  As everywhere in Vegas, you need to have a reservation.  You pick up the phone and let them know you've arrived, then the mystery door will open.

Once inside, you get to a room full of safes and keys.  Yes, very on the nose.

The hanging keys reminded me very much of Harry Potter where they need to find the right key.  But here, you just have to solve a few puzzle, put together the code, and you can unlock the safe that takes you to the bar.

There's a 2 drinks minimum.  Drink #1 has to be from this menu, on the QR code.  That's a little disappointing because what they have listed here is more limited than what they have to offer at the bigger bar outside.

This drink was the Citrus Mango Mocktail - it was too sugary for my taste.

Then Drink #2 you check off these questions, and the mixologist will whip up something according to what you put on there.

Now that one is much better.  Maybe because the mixologist is in the mood to be creative.  Or maybe she just have a formula for the stuff I checked off.  I'm not sure, but the 2nd drink was definitely way more delicious than the first one.  That was true for all the drinks in our party.

Had to show this one, it's actually really dark there, but this one actually shimmers.  It tastes align to that of a French 75m but never seen it green before.  This glass is suppose to be a bird, and the cucumber is the tail, and you get a shot glass for it.

The table has various kinds of games to kill time.  And the servers do check on us occasionally and for the right amount of check-ins.  The whole place has like maybe 10 tables.  Most of the tables against the walls are table for 2, and bigger parties gets the middle.  I would say the largest, sitting together comfortably would be 6-8.

The whole place does not have a door.  There might be paintings, and they might be doors, but you have to keep your eyes peeled for that. A reservation is a must here, since their seating are limited.

Let's say you didn't have a reservation, but wanted a decent drink.  Their outer bar has funky decorations of oddities and curiosities.  There are bar stools, and cozy tables for bigger parties.  So, even if you don't get in to the speakeasy, the outer bar is just as good.  That said, they also offer Mixology Classe in the afternoon, in case you're looking for something to do.

The bar is located inside Horseshoe hotel, walk towards the back, there's a set of escalators that goes to their food court.  There's also an arcade across the way and gift shops, the path they have there can get you to Paris Hotel next door.
