Flight Club

Been hearing about Flight Club and I'm super excited about going there.
It is a great bar with darts as their gimmick.  While the game is there, the alcohol is there, here's the food.  They have Happy Hour Monday - Friday from 4-6pm.

Here's the truffle fries - yum.  Can't stop having more.

The Lobster Elote Dip has corn alright, but no lobster in there...

Not pictured: Black and White Hummus - that's pretty good.  Also not pictured, flatbread, it's good too.

Chicken Skewers, they are sitting on top of hummus and has mango bits on there.  Those are pretty good too.

All in all, if you make a reservation, you're allotted 90 mins for the game.  It's like bowling, you squeeze in as many games as you can in there.  Supposedly you can fit 12 people in the cove and it'll be 6 people per team and each person takes a turn.  The way I'm seeing it, a cove like that is a tad small to fit that many.  I think 6 is comfortable.  The alcohol list is good, and there's valet or free parking in the back of the building.  Pretty safe to walk around.

Aya Sushi - Omakase

Situated at the former Bernie's Burger Bus location, I was just excited to try a new sushi place.  We did omakase, so this will be picture heavy.
Forgot parking can be tight, so either go early or park next door at the cafe.

Definitely have a very good drinks menu to start.

Yoshi's Lychee-Hime - it's light and goes down easy.  It has dragonfruit and pear vodka, lemongrass, lime, lychee, ginger.  Definitely light and fluffy.

Amuse bouche to start is a Miso Soup reimagined - it has a light layer of 'skin' capsulated a bit of miso soup.  When you eat it, it burst with the soup.  I will say, the burst was unexpected but definitely a bit gimmicky on the soup delivery.

This is Jellyfish marinated in vinegar with cucumber.  It's a tad on the salty side, but definitely good.

Oyster from British Columbia that has diced cucumber and watermelon with ponzu sauce.

This is small and cute.

It is Chawanmushi - which is a savory steamed egg dish with white fish, chicken, Ginko nut and scallop. It's pretty good, can stand to add a bit more saltiness to the dish though.

Another camera worthy dish.  When they open it up, the smoke comes out, it's kinda neat.

It's Tuna marinated in Thai tea leaves.  It definitely has a smokey taste to it.

This is Yellowtail & Spice - it has these mini chili but it's not spicy.  It does add crunchiness to the sashimi.  I wouldn't mind getting more of this.

Here we have Korean Sea Bream and Flounder, both very mild in terms of flavor.

Here we have Aji (horse mackerel) with pickle and small dab of wasabi.  Then we have Kanpachi (amberjack) with lemon zest.  Even though it's pretty strong, it's very nice flavor.

Here comes the Tuna course.

Bottom is Maguro with a dab of wasabi and tamari, that was tasted fishy to me.  The middle one is Chu Toro (which is medium fatty tuna), this one was my favorite because it literally melts in your mouth.  Then we have Otoro (which is the belly), which I got a chewy piece, so the tendons might be still in there a bit.

Take a quick break to show you there are several wall murals in the restaurant.

This is tempura sushi-grade ebi (shrimp) with wasabi mayo and you squeeze the lemon juice from the wedge you get and then you dip it in the mayo.  It's pretty good and fresh on the shrimp.

This is Soy boiled Chilean Seabass - the sauce really did the trick here, and seabags delivered the flavors.

This is California Uni - which is ok as far as uni goes.

This is Spicy hot roe with cucumber handrail - it has tuna in it, but the first couple bites were more bitter and as you eat it, it get saltier.  I can skip that one.

Not pictured, because I was so busy cooking and eating was the A5 beef.  It came with ponzu and sesame sauce and they give you a hot rock to cook it in.  Our server told us 3 seconds but for sure that was not enough.  I would say the sauces are ok, but the meat really made the sauces taste comes out.  It's nice marbling and texture and melts in your mouth.  Would definitely get that on its own.

Then we have the foie gras sushi.  It is made with 6 years aged eel sauce.  I will tell you that I don't have appreciation of how sauces goes on, and how long it aged that effect how it taste.  It's foie gras, it's decently made, it has the sauce and a bit crunch on the edges.

Typical to other omakase in town, they will ask if you would like to add before they close out.  I ordered the Bufun uni which served with caviar.  This comes from Hokkaido, definitely tasted better than the California one, more pure some how and that works for me but for $16, not sure yet.

Then for dessert, we have apple pie with miso ice cream and miso caramel.  I never had miso ice cream before, so that was a wonderful surprise.  The apple pie isn't bad either.  The server joked that they just grabbed them from McDonalds.  You can tell it's not, don't worry.  This surprised me that it tasted so good.

Overall, the place re-done was nice.  Yoshi san (chef) was there in the back sushi bar.  If your reservation is early enough, you can request to sit in front of him.  Otherwise they serve the tables just fine.  However, they do get packed, so reservations is highly recommended.

One weird thing stuck out.  As we were having our handrolls the server from the next table over was asking if we thought they shouldn't serve it. I'm like, aren't you supposed to ask if everything tasted great.  Not, you think that's bad too, huh? Maybe they shouldn't serve it.  It is an omakase, which I sure hope they think this is one of the better ones before decided to present to paying customers.  That was odd and stood out to me.

That aside, it's not bad, but a lot of these dishes, especially the good ones; can be ordered a la carte.  So I chalked this up as experience, and next time I'll know better.

Sushi King

Originally, we didn't intend to go to Sushi King...
but since our original spot had a 40 mins wait, decided to go across the street.

I got the agedashi tofu just for good measure.

Started with Tuna & Salmon.  The Tuna was a tad skimpy for the price we were paying, not to mention thin.  I will say the salmon was better, not only size but the quality as well.  Even if it's Happy Hour all day, every day, the skimpy of the fish made that not worth it.

This is the Hawaii Specialty Roll.

It's actually pretty good, it uses spring roll skin as opposed to nori (seaweed), there's also no rice.  I ordered this by accident, but happy that it turned out great.  It has tuna, escolar, crab stick, tamago (egg), avocado, cucumber, and masago.  There's eel sauce, mayo and sriracha.

It was filling and flavorful, definitely would get this again.

Then of course have to get Unagi for good measure.

Overall the trip was definitely not what they used to be.  They had 2 servers, 2 bussers, 4 sushi chefs and however many staff in the kitchen.  The owner guy was running around and taking our order.  Kinda wish I had ordered to-go so I can eat it at the comfort of my own home.

Inu-San

Been following Inu-San on IG for some time.
Besides the cute logo, they are also specialized in onigiri and sandos.

I got 2 sandos, this is the Matcha Strawberry.

Their matcha cream is bitter like you're having real matcha tea.  I will say that helped cut the sourness from the strawberries.

Another cute sandwich.

This is a Black Sesame with strawberries.

When in fact, it's not very Sesame-y, that's because it it has ube cream in there. No wonder there's not too much sesame.  I'm ok with ube, it's much more mild and if it's by itself it'll be just great.  Definitely not sweet, but more like a smooth cream.

To catch them, follow them on their IG, which they will announce where they popup.  I can't wait to try their onigiri.

Momo Bakes

Been following Momo Bake Cakes for some time.
Finally at the same place at the same time as they are, but line was long.

We were limited to what we can get, so only got a few items.  I got the hand-painted moon cake, matcha parfait cupcake, and an earl grey cookie dipped in lemon icing..

The cookie here really taste like you're having a cup of tea.

This cupcake was a surprise, the icing on top has the matcha powder but it taste like it too.  Most importantly, the flavor is super light and not like buttercream heavy.  The cake was good, just can't stop bragging about the icing.

Dumpling Haus

I was at Asia Society and ran into Dumpling Haus again.
I remembered how lovely their fried rice was, so came right back.

Look at how busy they chef is.  Just pan fried dumplings and rice is already keeping the line going.

What we have here: green ones are veggie dumplings and the other is pork dumplings.  All pan fried - super yum.

I got the order of dumpling with rice, they have garlic fried rice and you can smell it all the way down the hall.

I got smart this time, I brought containers so I can take it home.  Of course, I could've just gone to their brick and mortar store, but since I'm here already.... might as well take advantage. Definitely should stop by to try other dishes.

Da Gama

So went to Da Gama at MKT for dinner.
It is definitely a good group dinner kinda place.

Pretty menu to boot.

I got the Berry Nimbu Pani - it is Indian Limeade with berries, lime juice, salt rimmed, mint, and soda.  It really taste like limeade with Topo Chico, more fizzy and not too sweet.

Vada Pao in the back & Veggie Samosa. The Pao itself has the sweet buns, but the center is potato tiki but it tasted a lot like the bombas.  The samosa is vegetarian but it has curry in there, so if you're not a fan, skip. I quite enjoyed it to be honest.

Casava Bombas, it's a yucca croquette with cheese, chutney, and tomato bits.  It's ok, but not my favorite.

Saag Paneer - chard and collard greens and the bread has slices of cheese inside.  One of the better dishes for the evening.

Mum's Chicken Curry, it's not bad with the naan. It's a tad spicier than I'd like.  But the sauce is nice.

This is the Bullet Naan - basically regular naan with more kick in the spices.  So yes, it's spicier.

Watermelon chaat - which is like a salad which is refreshing while it's still hot outside.

Then we got the grilled octopus, which out of all the dishes, was my favorite for the evening.  Nicely grilled and potato on the side. If you can still get it, I highly recommend.

For dessert, we were asking if they have access to Pasteis de Nata - Portuguese Tart.  Which I know they sell them at the window on the weekends.  My only disappointment about that was that they took a long time to get these 3 little tarts.  For the size and the dollar is definitely not proportion.  So while I know they sell out on a lot of days, but this one is not as great as it sounded.

The rest of the service was good, it does get crowded, so you should book ahead or pick a week day to go. Parking is fine at M-K-T, there are parking everywhere.  Do go a bit early because as more shops are going in, it does get busy.
