Krispy Kreme

Of course, while on road trips, junk food is a MUST.
Came out to Krispy Kreme  for some donuts!  But first, Coffee!!!

The St Patrick's Day's donuts were in full force.

But they do have Kolache.  It's a little like Shipley's where the bread is doughy.

And the day we walked in, the staff grabbed us a plain original donut fresh from the rack.  It literally just go thru the icing river and came off of the belt.  So it was literally Hot Now and fresh.

Sea World San Antonio

When you go to Sea World,
You go on rides, go see animals.

You learn about conservation to help animals in the wild.

But you know you'll get hungry.  I managed to find something that is not fried.  Ok, to be fair, burger is not fried either, but you get what I mean.  I actually asked for a veggie wrap, but the poor staff have to come and tell me that it would take 30 mins.  I'm looking at her jaw dropped.  Luckily, next station they have 'Asian' food.  Alright, I'll bite.

I got the Bulgogi beef with veggies and rice.  I think they gave me just as much veggies as I would get for the wrap.  That said, the sauce for the Bulgogi was legit, so by the time you mix your rice and shredded carrots together, it was just right.  This is as non-fried as I can recommend here at the park.  Good luck to you!

Dona Tota

I saw that I'm near Gorditas, of course, I have to go check them out.
It looks to be a neighborhood joint.

I got Pollo en Mole (on top), and Chicharron en Salsa Verde (bottom).  They use corn tortillas to make the pocket.  Both of those have pure meat with yummy sauce to match.  And yes, each one of those are filled to the max.

They actually have location out by Katy and actually in progress to open a location in Spring.

Wayback Burger

We were in San Antonio, and decided to grab a burger.
This is in a quiet neighborhood and it's a cute area.  Hoping more stores will go in there soon.  There is a Starbucks around the corner though.

Hail from Delaware, they are bringing burger back from the days of old.

It is smash style.  I got the A1 Burger without the buns, so it's really burger patties, steak sauce, and shoestring onion rings.  It came with a side and the drink for a meal.  So I got the tater tots to go with it.

The burger is pretty decent.  There are one location already in Richmond, and another one to be opened on  Westheimer over Spring.

Fat Cat Creamery

Went back to Fat Cat for some ice cream.
I like coming here, you know that their batches are small and it's locally made, so there's alot of attention to the quality goes into the TLC on each of the ice cream.

I got the Buttercake, and it was buttery goodness.  I love how you can grab an ice cream and go outside at the lawn and sit there and enjoy it.  Too fun!

Moon Rabbit

For Chinese New Year/ Tet we went to Moon Rabbit for lion dance.
Alot of times you can check he restaurant or the Lion Dance troops to see where they're performing.  The schedule is always packed, so when you go to the destination waiting for the performance, be sure to bring patience.  They often run into traffic between gigs.

I ordered Peach tea, though they come in hot.  Be sure to ask for a glass of ice, so you can enjoy it immediately.

This is the classic egg rolls - it's fried, with pork, shrimp, mushroom.  Traditionally it comes with lettuce and fish sauce.  You're suppose to wrap the egg roll with the lettuce, then dip the sauce and take your bite.  Nice and crispy.

For entree, I got the Pho Tai Chinh - which has vermicelli with tenderloin and brisket with this big bowl of soup.  I just love the soup, nice beef broth with the noodle.  I really enjoyed the noodles with the soup.  So I'm definitely coming back for this.

Here's my tip about going to eat during a special event day.  You may think a low key place like this it's no problem grabbing a table.  But truly, what you should do is still grab a reservation, get it closer to the time they're about to start, that way you have a seat, get a chance to place your order and enjoy the show when they start.  We not only got a good spot, got our order in before the show starts, and get to enjoy our app while the show was going.  And the rest of the meal went on smoothly.

They do have a few parking next to the building, but directly across also have a lot, so feel free to check and park there.

Drop the Creator

There's a small distillery tucked in the neighborhood near Meyerland.
It is women owned, which makes gin, whiskey and vodka.

The space is cute in the back, great for now, when the weather is nice for drinking outside.

Since it's mid-afternoon, I just got a mocktail and a dessert.

The dessert is outsourced.  This is a mini Oreo Cheesecake, it's pretty good.  And the size is just perfect.

Another thing that I appreciate is that even though they are a distiller, they serves mocktails.  This is a Strawberry fields, it's strawberry lemonade plus other mixer all non-alcoholic.

Not only that, they serve quite an array of food too.  They have pizza, pretzels, sandwiches, bruschetta, cheese board, nuts and other snacks.  Perfect for drinking and snacking.

The place actually has a lot of space, lots of tables and there are folks that come to play games and get a drink.  Or watch games on TV.  It's great for parties or gatherings.

Little's Oyster Bar

Went to Little's Oyster Bar for dinner.
It was formerly Pappa's Seafood, same location, slightly different concept.

This is a Cool as a Cucumber mocktail.  It has apple, cucumber juice, lime, and Topo Chico.  Nice and refreshing, not sugary at all, as the Topo Chico diluted it.

This is the Tuna Crudo.  It has roasted pepper, pomegranate, walnut, mint, and chive leaves as your boat.  It's a deconstructed lettuce cup, it's pretty good.

Lobster & Gnocchi - it has cherry tomatoes, potato skins, gnocchi, and decent chunks of lobster.  I was kinda surprised that the sauce is not as flavorful as it looked.  The gnocchi didn't absorb as much as I'd like for that texture.

We also ordered baked oysters - It has oyster, crab parmesan, baked.  It was delicious.  I wouldn't mind getting more of this.

We got the American Red Snapper, it is chicken fried (mmmm yum).  That is not tartar sauce, but it gave it more flavor and texture, it's pretty good, and just enough for everyone.

Everyone online were recommending the Crispy Eggplant, and when it arrived it smelled delicious.  But the taste did not deliver.  The sweet chili Thai sauce was good, but the crispy wasn't crispy enough to me.

The broccolini was good though, really enjoyed that.

For dessert, this is the Toasted Buttermilk Custard.  The texture of the dessert is not as thick as it sounded.  It has this very thin cookie on top, and it came with a nice pouched pear that goes with pear sorbet.  I'm actually a huge fan of pouched pear, so the nice warm pear with the sorbet was delightful.  The custard goes well with the cookie, and pear.  It's good match.

The place is smaller inside than it looked from the outside.  So a reservation is highly highly recommended.  We made a reservation on the earlier side, and by the time we look up mid-meal, there were a group gathered by the door hoping for a table.  They do have a small high tops on the outside, so you can sit out there.  It is right by the valet station, so that would be great for people watch.

Speaking of, yes, you can valet, but on the side of the building on the lot of Alabama and Shepherd, you can park for free.  Very convenient.

El Guajillo Food Truck

We went to White Oak Music Hall.
And since they do not have food there, we went next door.

We saw a food truck over by Raven Tower.  They have lots of seats to accommodate, of course, we have to buy our drinks from the bar.  (BTW, bonus for walking up to the tower)

I got the quesadillas - frankly it's actually pretty good, chicken was fresh and cheese was good.  The sauce was a tad spicy, but nothing too crazy.

Sadly, the nacho did not fare so well.  The chips were stale and everything just didn't taste fresh.  So I'll stick back to my quesadillas.

Jane & the Lion Bakehouse

Been hearing this place on IG, so thought we give it a try.
It's a cute little place in the back of a shopping center.

I got a honey latte.

They got a cute space inside for seating.

I got the sando, they use focaccia bread made in-house.  Topped with veggies canned in house.  Forgot what the meat was inside, but the sandwich was delicious.

In case there's any interest on the pickled veggies, jam, or bacon fat.  You can buy some on your way out.

They have beer cheese, vinaigrette, marinated olives, jammy olives.

If you love their bread, you can definitely get some, but they also have a case full of gluten free goodies.  They have cookies, muffins, pie, biscuits, quiche.

They have sourdough, focaccia bread to take home too.

Jane's place pride themselves of not using any seed oil, no artificial food coloring or flavors.  They also support local farmers by sourcing from local and organic.

They have lots of parking in the shopping center.  So no need to worry about that.  They are open for breakfast and brunch.  Sometimes they have special dinner events, you will have to check back to see when the offerings are happening.

Paris Baguette

Went to Paris Baguette for a quick stop.
I got the Korean Iced Milk Coffee - it's coffee with half & half over ice.  This is pre-made, so they don't offer non-diary options.

Of course, I picked up some treats!!!  I can never part without getting a pain aux raisin (raisin bread is my fav of all time), blueberry tart, feuillete au chocolat (it's a twisty bread with bit of chocolate chips), pastel de nata, ham and cheese croissant.

The place have so many pretty bread and cakes, you really get lured to wanting it all.  There's alot of seatings inside a few tables outside, so you can enjoy your coffee and pastry there.

Mikiya - Wagyu Shabu House

Been meaning to try this place.
Lucky for me, it was a friend's birthday and we have an excuse.

This is a Shabu Shabu (hot pot) place.

Like many Shabu places, you have a buffet bar with frozen bits of tofu, fish cakes, oysters.  There's also mushrooms, noodles, sprouts....

... there are fruit too.

Then, there's the sauce bar.  From garlic, spicy, soy, peanut butter, or mix and match.

For the appetizer, we got the wagyu nigiri - the meat pretty decent.  They wrapped it and then cooked it.

This is Yellowtail with caviar.  It's actually pretty good.

Here's Hokkaido scallop topped with sliced apple.  It's actually pretty unique.

For soup base, we got spicy miso (top) and sukiyaki (with a hint of sweet).  The meat comes frozen and laid out like this.

Our set also comes with seafood.  It has lobster, scallops, shrimp, abalone, yellowtail.  I actually really like the seafood platter.  Definitely worth getting.

As if that wasn't enough food, I saw that they have a Waygu minced rice dish or Waygu Curry dish.  Of course, I'm greedy to the core and filled up a nice big dish of it.  I got some veggie, tofu, and fishcakes ready to go.

For dessert, I got a scoop of the red bean ice cream.  Not to mention, they have Milk Tea and Match Milk Tea you can get.  Of course, by now, we were stuffed to the gills.

How this work is 90 minutes, you can select sets ranging $45 to $98.  That's all you can eat style, the higher the price point the more choices of Wagyu that's available.  And of course, you can ask for more, but truly by the time you cook all of the food, you're filling up.

I'm super glad that my friend brought me here.  It's is a good recommendation, the quality of the meat were good, the offering on veggie and the supplements was not as expansive as other shabu places, but the quality is good.  And yes, you have to roll me out of here.
