New to Houston, there's a giggly Japanese style souffle cheesecake in Chinatown.
It's called Nikkos.
I've known friends that waited for 2+hrs for one. So let's see what's so special here.
p.s. it does come in that nice red box. But apparently it's wrapped in a plastic bag, which as you know if it's fresh out of the oven, there'll be steam, then condensation trapped in the bag. So air it out as soon as you get home.
So it does look nice and spongy, but the characteristic of a Japanese soufflé cheesecake is like and fluffy and jiggly. The Jig is from gelatin in the mix. It should've raised up like a cheesecake so there's no sponge. But you see how it's cut that it has a packed center. It has deflated a bit out of the oven, but that's still edible.
That said, it tasted like creamy cake, honestly can't taste much cheese. It didn't jig much as far as I can cut it. That said, I've had some legit ones at Keki and this doesn't measure up. From what I understand, the franchise owners has never had a food business before and the staff are still mid-training. So, not all the cylinders fired up so-to-speak. Maybe give them a try after the hype dies down.
