Couple weeks ago, by some dumb luck I got invited to the Cattle Baron's Ball. Of course, I have to take photos of the food and show you guys!
At the VIP reception, they had a cheese spread, and of course open bar!
It was catered by Pappas Catering, and I think they really out did themselves. They were serving the lollipop lamp, shrimp poppers with cheese inside.
Inside, they have mini pig races, midway games, casino games, and of course, food.
They have Poblano Soup, it has the consistency of baked potato soup. It comes with cheese and scallion.
They have chicken skewers, it wasn't as dry as I thought it'd be.
Pull pork sandwich, with pork...
Yes, they have a roast pig for show!
So, the finished product... (I know it's sad, first I made you see the cute piglet, then you see the roasted pig, and then now how I'm going to eat it. Bad, I know.)
How about fried oysters!
Carving station!
My version of surf and turf: Crab cakes and roast beef.
In case you don't have enough food, they also have a fajita station!
You do get the standard fajita beef and chicken, salsa, rice, and all the fixin's. The biggest deal here is that they made the tortilla right there, so you know it's super fresh!
Of course, you can't have a big party without sugar! They have a nice spread of cookies, brownies, and biscotti. They also served soft serve ice cream.
But if you look at the right time, they have fresh out of the oven cobblers in peach, cherry, and apple AND, a la mode with Blue Bell ice cream. How can you not have one?!
In all seriousness, the event has been in Houston for over 25 years. I've always heard good things about them, anything from food, entertainment (we had Lyle Lovett), to the auctions (one quilt went for 51K the first time, donated back, and went for 50K), other stuff for auction from spa events to hunting events, to raffle for cars. This is the biggest fundraiser for American Cancer Society in the Houston area.
Oh yeah, not to mention an awesome swag bag, and items can be redeemed at the 'general store', which had anything from coolers, handbags, jewelry, to gift certificate to salons and restaurant. While the amount of donation I paid would barely make a dent in cancer research, I felt honored to be part of it.
