Yuen Yuen Restaurant

After dinner, Mom and I were walking around what was open in late night Chinatown.  We've decided that people had their dinner in Chinatown and move up to different part of town for shows, clubs, or bars.  On our way to the subway station, we saw a sign about dessert.  Ok, we haven't had that for a long time, sure.
Well, here's the thing, even though they publicized for Chinese dessert, they really is a dinner place.  Good for rice dishes and noodle dishes and stuff.  Pricing is very decent.  Here's the irony: for a rice dish with meat and veggie it ran about $3, yes as in 3 US dollars.  However, for my bowl of red (mung) bean soup with sweet rice balls that cost $4.50.  How skewed is that?  The rice is much more work and nutritional than my dessert soup.

My beef with the red bean soup is that it is sweet enough, and they give you at least 6 of those sweet rice balls, except, they're supposed to be sweet, but these are bland, so that was a tad disappointing.  In traditional Chinese style, they usually put dates and some herbs to help with digestive.  Pretty thoughtful, huh?

Well, next time if you come to Yuen Yuen (near the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory), go in for dinner and dessert.  Expect the dinner comes in under 5 mins and desserts takes over 10 mins.
