What is amazing to me is that there is a huge Asian population in Sydney. They range from Chinese, Malays, Singaporean, Japanese, Koreans, Taiwanese and Vietnamese. There are alot of students came from aboard and ended up staying.
You practically cannot missed a Malaysian restaurant while walking down the street, any street. That said to me that the Malaysian population is big, like we have Chinese food every other street in anytown, USA.Here, at Malacca Straits is a unique location, that is because they are located near both UTS and TAFE universities. It is located inside a building that was formerly an archaeologic site that turned loft. Alot of their business came from students and their usual customers, probably former students that lived nearby.
This is chicken satay, pretty standard dish in Malaysian cuisine.
This is fried fish wrapped in banana leaf, it is crispy on the outside, but moist on the inside.
Beef curry, a little less liquid than what we're used to.
Hainanese Chicken, they are well known in the Malay cuisine. But I'm pretty sure the chef and the family that runs the restaurant are part Chinese, by way of their speech.
Salt and Pepper fried squid
The cool thing about doing doggy bag, the Australians don't call it doggy bag, they called them Take Away box (our version of To Go box). And almost all of the restaurants I've been to, be it high range, mid range, or low range in price, they all offer you a very nice to go box that you can sure use it over and over at home. Some places do charge you for it, maybe for 50 cents. Just like some places charge $1 for hot water.
