Oishii
Oishii is your quinessential Mom and Pop place. When we first moved to the neighborhood, it was a quaint little place. Quirky, cheap but fresh sushi. Hardly anyone know about this place. A true hole in the wall. As a matter of fact, the left over pinkish back splash shows that they didn't think much about the decoration.
Thru their support of friends, they were able to do a great job with the place. Not in terms of the decor, but in terms of service and food. The owners are super sweet and down to earth. Even though they're arm deep in rice to make sushi, they still make an effort to say hello.
Fast forward now, you would have to stand in line outside of the restaurant for at least 45 mins for a table. That's because their sushi is still good, cheap and fresh. There are nights that when they sell out, they sell out and close up. Yet, loyal customers return time and again.
It took the Greenway yuppies quite a while to catch on to the fact that this mom and pop shop is happy to do customized orders of maki's and happy to go above and beyond to serve their customers. I think every year around Christmas/New Year, where the owners take a much needed hiatus, people go thru Oishii withdraws.
Look, in this town, you have any of your pick in terms of sushi. That's a dime a dozen, but for awesome happy hour, where you buy one get one free appetizers to $1 sushi that are fresh and good; that's hard to find. Best time to catch a lull, either before the start of Happy Hour, which on Monday thru Friday from 3p thru 7p, or Saturday 3p to 6p. Or, catch lunch during weekday. Otherwise, don't be surprise if you have to wait more than 45 mins for a table.
